WASHINGTON – Today, Sen. Mark Begich (AK), Chairman of the Senate Democratic Steering and Outreach Committee (DSOC), and Sen. Sherrod Brown (OH) hosted labor leaders for a roundtable discussion on workers’ rights, the implementation of the Affordable Care Act, protecting the National Labor Relations Board, enacting legislation that spurs job creation, and passing commonsense immigration reform. Along with Senate Democrats, the meeting featured leaders representing a broad array of America’s workforce – public service workers, domestic workers, transportation workers, postal service employees, and more. The roundtable highlighted Senate Democrats’ longstanding relationship with the labor movement and their mutual efforts to continue growing our economy while strengthening the middle class.
“Today’s meeting was an important opportunity to hear from our national labor leaders and have a productive conversation about ways we can uphold our commitment to America’s working families,” said. Sen. Begich. “I look forward to continuing to work with our labor leaders as we fight for working families in Alaska and across the nation.”
“The labor movement helped build America’s middle class. As we continue our work to strengthen the economy and create jobs, it’s critical that the voice of working families is louder than powerful special interests,” said Sen. Brown. “We know that the strength of our economy is directly tied the strength of working and middle class families.”
