WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Senators Mark Begich (AK), Chairman of the Democratic Steering and Outreach Committee (DSOC), Chris Coons (DE), Chairman of Business Outreach, and Majority Leader Harry Reid (NV) hosted a meeting with local chambers of commerce in the U.S. Capitol.
The candid, hour-long discussion focused on job creation and highlighted pivotal issues for the business community, including: access to credit for local businesses, workforce development, higher education, access to technology for rural businesses, and managing successful public/private partnerships.
“Our nation’s local Chambers of Commerce are on the front lines of economic development, promoting our small businesses, and the communities that they support.” said Sen. Begich. “I am especially pleased that Russell Dick from the Alaska Chamber of Commerce was able to join us today to share the insights of his members representing thousands of employees across a diverse workforce. We heard a lot of good ideas today and I look forward to sharing them with my colleagues as we continue to work on ways to spur economic growth on Main Street.”
“The federal government should be doing all it can to support small business growth and facilitate job creation,” Senator Coons said. “Maintaining an open dialogue with local business leaders is the best way to strengthen our partnership and ensure businesses have the resources they need to thrive. As Chair of Business Outreach, I look forward to expanding on today’s discussion and examining new opportunities to better serve our local business communities.”
Senate Democrats have been working closely with businesses in their respective states to find innovative ways to help them grow and create jobs in a recovering economy.
